TOWARDS AN ETHICAL AND IMPACTFUL FUTURE OF EDTECH: A DIALOGUE BETWEEN EAST AND WEST


While digital technologies give hope for convivial futures, today's reality and practices highlight design challenges and risks that must be addressed urgently. So far, private entities are becoming the central infrastructures and means for education. This central position occupied by educational technologies (EdTech) requires thorough oversight, clear rules, and standards to ensure quality education and designs that respect the individual and the collective rights, freedoms, cultures, and values. While there is a growing emphasis on governments and schools to provide such oversight, meet security standards, and adhere to data privacy requirements, little is being done to mandate them and validate that such standards are met by the industry. As an ecosystem, how should key stakeholders address these issues? Following our recent webinar co-led by SyergisED and EDDS, this report delves into the models and priorities that the investment community places in EdTech, to explore how they impact education.
